Opening Keynote: Knowing our History, Claiming Our Future: Fighting for Transgender and Nonbinary Youth

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Chase Strangio, Deputy Director for Transgender Justice for the ACLU and a nationally recognized leader on transgender rights, will help set the tone for the Symposium.  A transgender man, a parent, a lawyer and an activist, Strangio is uniquely positioned to provide us with a foundation to understand current political challenges, from threats to gender affirming health care for youth to censorship of LGBTQ focused conversations in schools. He will go beyond the impact of the courts and beyond LGBTQ specific legislation, making connections to topics such as reproductive and voting rights and their impact on the well-being of transgender and nonbinary children and teens, ultimately asking us to consider, “How did we get here and where do we go?”  Finally, Chase will share with us why he sees joy as an integral part of movements for change.  Attendees will leave this keynote inspired to engage in the symposium workshops to become stronger advocates, in their individual work with youth and in the larger political context.
