2021 and 2022 have been the most devastating years on record for anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, including transgender athlete bans and medical care bans targeting youth in numerous states across the country.  This workshop led by Athlete Ally and The Trevor Project will help get participants off the sidelines and into the action to advocate for trans youth to participate in sports. This workshop will feature a discussion of the history and current landscape for transgender athletes in the US, how to support trans youth in sports, and advocacy and messaging strategies to influence inclusive policies on a local and state level. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding about the current political landscape regarding anti-transgender legislation and how we got here, tangible action steps to support transgender youth in sports including advocacy and messaging, and how sports can be sports can be lifesaving for all kids.
